Early Literacy Tip: When we read to children they are being exposed to the language of books. This helps them learn to read more easily once they go to school because the language of books is richer and uses more words than the language of conversation (example: exhausted for tired). Books also use more complicated sentences.
Book: Lola at the Library by Anna McQuinn and Rosaline Beardshaw
My story time is on Tuesday (just like Lola’s) so I especially love this book. 😀

Clap your hands, stomp your feet
Wiggle all around
Throw your hands up in the air and now let’s touch the ground
Touch your head, touch your hips, give yourself a hug
Now sit down upon the floor
But watch out for the bugs!! (stamp out the bugs)

Song: Back in the Jungle
Back in the jungle many years ago,
I had a friend his name was Joe and he had a lot of pets.
He had creepy ones, crawly ones, big and small.
But my favorite pet of all was a lion that went like this (*roar*)
(Crocodile that went like this [*snap snap snap*])
(Frog that went like this [*ribbit, ribbit, ribbit*])
(Monkey that went like this [*ooo ooo aah aah*])
Song: Itsy Bitsy Spider

Song: Read, Read, Read a Book (to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Read, read, read a book,
Travel anywhere,
Worldwide, you decide,
A book will take you there.
Read, read, read a book,
Beginning to the end.
What a way to spend the day,
A book’s a special friend!
