Garden Story Time (2019)

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Book: Lola Plants a Garden by Anna McQuinn; illustrated by Rosalind Beardshaw

lola plants a garden

Lola’s mommy and daddy help her plant a pretty garden because she loves the poem Mary, Mary Quite Contrary. I’m a big fan of the Lola books. They’re just so sweet.

Flannel/Song: Bugs in the Garden (to the tune of The Wheels on the Bus)
The bees on the flowers go buzz, buzz, buzz,
Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz,
The bees on the flowers go buzz, buzz, buzz,
All through the garden.

The spiders in the grass go climb, climb, climb (climb hands like a spider) //
The butterflies in the air go flutter, flutter, flutter (flap arms) //
The ants in the dirt go march, march, march (march)

My coworker created this amazing flower and bug flannel. She also gave me the song but she doesn’t know where she found it originally …

Book: My Garden by Kevin Henkes

my_garden

A little girl helps her mother in the garden. She daydreams about what would be in her garden (a jelly bean bush, flowers that never died, etc.). I always tell the kids I’d have an ice cream bush in mine. This is a great project for kids to do at home if there’s a rainy afternoon after story time! I think this would also make a great preschool program … read the book then create your own garden with art supplies.

Song: Baby Shark
Baby shark do do do do do do (shark mouth with two fingers)
Baby shark do do do do do do
Baby shark do do do do do do
Baby shark

Other verses:
Mama Shark (shark mouth with hands connected at the wrists)
Daddy Shark (shark mouth with whole arms)
Grandma Shark (shark mouth like mama shark but with fists)
Grandpa Shark (shark mouth like daddy shark but with fists)
Shark attack (snap arms overhead)
Swim away (swimming motion with arms)
Safe at last (jazz hands)

Closing Song: It’s Time to Say Goodbye to All Our Friends (to the tune of She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain When She Comes)
It’s time to say goodbye to all our friends, “Goodbye!” (tap knees)
It’s time to say goodbye to all our friends, “Goodbye!”
It’s time to say goodbye,
Wave your hands and wink your eye, (wave, wink)
Now it’s time to say goodbye to all our friends, “Goodbye!”
