Family Story Time (2019)

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave) Source: Storytime Katie

Song: The Grand Old Duke of York

Song: Eeny Meeny Miny Mo
Eeny meeny miny mo,
Let me hear your hands go,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap!

Sounds so good, sounds so fine,
Let me hear it one more time!
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap!

Feet go stomp // Tongue go click // Mouth go shhh

Book: One Family by George Shannon; pictures by Blanca Gomez

one family

Counting book with lots of diverse families. We had a state senator visit today and read this selection which was really fun.

Song: If You Have a Brother … (to the tune of Did You Ever See a Lassie?)
If you have a brother,
A brother, a brother,
If you have a brother,
Please stand up!

Sister/Mother/Father

We had varying success with the little ones standing up since our crowd skewed a bit younger today. I think my outreach kids would nail this one …

Song/Flannel: Five Little Ducks

Book: Families, Families, Families! by Suzanne Lang & Max Lang

Families Families Families

Book using animals to illustrate different kids of families. I can’t get the beginning part to rhyme but the last part of it does. *shrug* I still love it.

Wiggle Rhyme: Watch Out for the Bugs (to the tune of Jingle Bells)
Clap your hands, stomp your feet,
Wiggle all around!
Throw your hands up in the air and now let’s touch the ground,
Touch your head, touch your hips, give yourself a hug,
Now sit down upon the floor,
But watch out for the bugs!! (stamp out the bugs)

I got this rhyme from the children’s librarian at a library I worked at years ago.

Egg Shakers: Shake It by Sally’s Music Circle

Book: The Family Book by Todd Parr

the family book

I know Todd Parr’s books are simplistic but I really love them. Perfect for showing diverse families at story time.

Song: Skinnamarink

Closing Song: Goodbye Song (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
My fingers wave goodbye, My fingers wave goodbye,
When it’s time for me to go,  My fingers wave goodbye!

My fingers blow a kiss, My fingers blow a kiss,
When it’s time for me to go, My fingers blow a kiss!

I got this song from the children’s librarian where I did my grad school practicum.
