Thanksgiving Story Time (2019)

Welcome Song: Clap and Sing Hello (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
We clap and sing hello,
We clap and sing hello,
With our friends at story time,
We clap and sing hello!

We tap and sing hello (tap knees) //
We stretch and sing hello (stretch arms up) //
We wave and sing hello (wave)

Song: The Grand Old Duke of York

Song: Eeny Meeny Miny Mo
Eeny meeny miny mo,
Let me hear your hands go,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap!

Sounds so good, sounds so fine,
Let me hear it one more time!
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap,
Clap, clap, clap-clap, clap!

Feet go stomp // Tongue go click // Mouth go shhh

Book: Duck and Hippo Give Thanks by Jonathan London; illustrated by Andrew Joyner

duck and hippo give thanks

Hippo wants an “old-fashioned” Thanksgiving but his friends have other plans. This book is a little long but I like showing a Friendsgiving AND different types of food being served in case some kids don’t have traditional get togethers with family.

Flannel Board: Five Little Turkeys
Five little turkeys standing by the door,
One waddled off and now there are four.
Four little turkeys under a tree,
One waddled off and now there are three.
Three little turkeys with nothing to do,
One waddled off and now there are two.
Two little turkeys in the noonday sun,
One waddled off and now there is one.
One little turkey better run away,
For soon it will be Thanksgiving Day!

Action Rhyme: I’m a Turkey
I’m a turkey, big and fat. (spread arms out)
I spread my tail, I walk like that. (fan fingers in turkey tail; waddle back and forth)
Each day’s corn I will not miss, (rub tummy)
And when I talk I sound like this:
Gobble! Gobble! Gobble!

Book: Thanksgiving Is Here! by Diane Goode

thanksgiving is here!

A big family gets ready for Thanksgiving dinner. I wish the family was a little more diverse but it’s a sweet book.

Egg Shakers: Shake It by Sally’s Music Circle

Book: Thanks for Thanksgiving by Julie Markes; illustrated by Doris Barrette

thanks-for-thanksgiving

Rhyming book about different kinds of things kids are thankful for. I read this one every year, it’s a tradition. 🙂
